the BLABBERIN': Environmental Engineer VS Environmentalist

Greetings!!

Peep (not the real name and a friend of mine) and I had a lil conversation last week:

Peep: “Hey A.L, how are ya? How’s your study?”

A.L: “Hey...I’m good, doing great...and ah...study is over dude...I graduated and got a job already”

Peep: “Oh? Wow...that’s great!! What kinda job?”

A.L: “Environmental Engineer”

Peep: “Environmental? Wow...that’s cool...so you’re an environmentalist now. Hahaha~.”

A.L: “................ (=.=)”

Peep: “What’s up?”

A.L: “Dude, are you kidding me?”

Peep: “What? What is it?”

A.L: “I’m an engineer...not an environmentalist,”

Peep: “Eerrr...is there a difference?”

A.L: “.........................there is laaa...big difference you know...O.M.G ah you...”

Peep: “Ahahaha...really??I didn’t know about that”

A.L: “...................................(=.=)nevermind.”

Environmental Engineer...yeap!! That’s me and no I am not an Environmentalist. There is a huge difference between Environmental Engineer and Environmentalist. Clearly being an environmental engineer doesn’t mean you’re and environmentalist and in terms of what we do for living is NO we do not do what environmentalists do.

In terms of definition, an environmentalist is a person that helps to protect the environment from destruction or pollution. He or she places high values on the environment. In another words, they do whatever it takes in order to keep the environment clean, safe and not polluted and by whatever it takes I mean anything including research, produce reports, write articles, lecture and they even dare to issue press releases, lobby congress, fundraise, and campaign.

In contrast, environmental engineers conduct hazardous-waste management studies to evaluate the significance of such hazards. We advise on treatment and containment, and develop regulations to prevent mishaps. Some environmental engineers also design municipal water supply and industrial wastewater treatment systems.

Simply to say, we’re like a scientist and the environment is our specimen which we do some experiment on them, identify the problems and the impacts to surrounding and come out with the solutions in the form of practical solutions or regulations. We have our own working system and we work quietly and peacefully...despite the stress in work though. :D hehehehe.

I know, it’s quite confusing and kinda hard to differentiate these two jobs because their scope of work relates to the environment and I think... that’s the only thing that we had in common though...Hahaha.

Fuuuuh...okay...It has been pretty long entry now...I’d better cut the crappy talking here for now...until next time. Chow~
